I have been queried as to the powers of a MAGNUS.

I have been queried as to the powers of a MAGNUS. Curiously, there is little in the known literature about the powers of a Magnus. I have extracted that, for instance, the Vesuvian Magnus was able to create the Aegis Nova and quite possibly a Tecthulhu. But what are the powers and purposes of a Magnus. Calvin's Magnus created the Scanner and Epiphany night resulting in the dispersal of XM, so Magnus' might well serve as Liminal groups to move mankind from one era to another. What else do we know?

Comments

  1. I believe that they do appear at pivotal points in history, to either bring mankind into a new age or a dark age. The question is how do they relate to the will of the Shapers or Nzeer, would a Magnus seek to work together to stop them or help one of them? The answer to this i think lies in perceived threat. If there is a challenge facing mankind, a Magnus will rise.

  2. Definitely feel a Magnus an engine, an incentive, an accelerator for a leap forward of humanity seems to me easy thing to say.
I, however, powers of which these personalities can be fitted should be reasoned, perhaps, within a period of artificial optical possibilities.
It is not ONLY what Magnuses can do by itself, but what they, together with technology / ability exogenous can get to do.

I do not believe, moreover, that the archaic technology levels are less full of possibilities for modern ones. Rather.
The primordial artifacts come from such ancient times that the technology was nothing more than MAGIC.

Magicians (Magnuses) as well as scientists? Philosophers and alchemists.

Personally I do not find possible limits - especially in light of the few data we have - what in these contemporary MAGI - these WISE - can get to be able to produce and make.
Something, for another, that once made "[...] can not be unmade [...]"

  3. Aaron P just said it best, if there is a challenge facing mankind, a Magnus will rise.

  4. If you believe xm is a temporal phenomena rather than a spacial phenomena, as I do, you might think of them as bookmarks or waypoints in history for those travelling forward or backwards in time. Think of Obsidius mentioning red eyes or Suzanna mentioning a giant beast. They moved quickly between the points separating the Magnus groups, but paused on the Magnuses (just what is the plural). This might explain why they seem to occur at highly volital eras (both positive and negative). A sort of road sign to direct efforts to control human destiny.

  5. Ryan Schoon as they were "time nodes" within the continuum?

  6. Recursive immortality seems to be shared by all members.

Individual sensitivities may or may not be tied to one's position in the Magnus (does the Viator always sense XM and have visions from other timelines or is that combination peculiar to Hank Johnson's personal outlook?). We have seen Misty read thoughts, commune with spirits, and hyperthread. We have seen Carrie and Lightman intuit the meanings of glyphs. We have seen Jarvis communicate with the Shapers directly and manifest as an XM Infomorph. Until we have members of another magnus to compare I'm inclined to believe the powers of a magnus are a variable limited primarily by the training and worldview of its members.

  7. I think the relationship a magnus has with an exogenous entity may be a result of the magnus's creator. So if they favor one exogenous species over an other they will act on that entities wishes. The truly interesting thing to think about was that maybe ADADN could have spawned multiple magnus groups and that that is what Jarvis and Acolyte are trying to do in their #enlightenedCabanaResort.

  8. If we look at the Magnus in the context of the current shards event, you could say that at its most fundamental level its simply the boundary of all possible included elements.

(The image chosen for the recent investigate.ingress.com - Investigate: Ingress post prompts me to say that its also the same fundamental boundary for all possible combinations of those elements.)

  9. QuantumIngress EffectIngress I'm sure Edgar Allan Wright is Professor R.
Edgar Allan Wright to answer your question, I think a Magnus is not only the human proxies in the continuous battle between the N'zzer and the Shapers, but also a key to a door, or portal in this case.
The Magnus, 13 or anti, is set in such a fashion that they become the cuts in a key that either lets in or locks out their aligned exogenous allies.
The reason Calvin's Magnus didn't work is because the cuts didn't align with the pins in the lock. That is why the world went all gallymoggers.

  10. Edgar Allan Wright I believe Hank Johnsons recent post sheds some light on this as well. Perhaps a Magnus is the answer to the question- where do prime objects come from? Since the Magnus from the past relied on prime objects, it is logical that they were the ones who discovered them, but what if they were also the ones who created them, shaped them or polished them? Like finding a raw diamond, they were able to take an object in its raw form and turn it into something even more powerful/extraordinary. If so, perhaps our own modern day Magnus is capable of creating new prime objects or making new discoveries?
