I have received an anonymous scholarly tip that the Essex might have made a stop in San Diego before heading to San Francisco. I have no checked the ship's log, but it would be a fascinating development as San Diego was also the first place where Tycho Appeared. It would not surprise me if there was an anomalous zone in that area at that time. In fact, I am beginning to believe that Anomalous Zones are much more common than we might have previously believed. The question is where the Niantic might have landed and what was present in that period. Perhaps it was a routine stop o a long voyage or perhaps there was other meaning. I am having trouble getting the idea that Fletcher and Harlan might have met, but the timelines might not allow for that.

I welcome any insights you might have.

  1. Could there be a pattern in their stops? And who could've sent you the tip? In my opinion, Tycho is a strange person. We do only have a small list of known Anomalous Zones. But they might be all around us without knowing. What were the last locations of the Niantic?

  2. I would not want to venture too much with this hypothesis, but if we consider the most common Anomalous Zones than we have so far considered, and we know that within the Anomalous Zones time and space are completely different from the rest of the continuum then the hypothesis that such a meeting actually took place would not be so unlikely.

The real problem, in my opinion, is the lack of reliable historical data for those who are away from American soil.
Without the opportunity to visit and document on the field the places you refer to, Edgar Allan Wright everything becomes very difficult.

Congratulations and assumptions are fine, but to test them, it is necessary to have agents in the field.
I strongly hope that some of our investigating colleagues who live or travel to San Diego can provide more reliable information.

  3. There seem to be no official record that Essex unlike Niantic ever made it either to San Francisco or to San Diego. We know however that both ships had close connections. Essex was build in Nantucket Island, while Niantic was owned by Nantucket based Cleveland family. Do those two ships share more than we know of? Was Essex crew and Niantic crew connected remotely via prime objects? I think it may be speculated that Niantic and/or Essex crew included sensitives (maybe Anaztec tribesman) who were looking for something in San Diego that was closely connected with XM. Maybe this, not gold rush, was the reason for Niantic crew desertion in San Francisco. I think San Diego may even be a N'Zeer power spot. That is why it may have been attracted by Tycho C. and by Niantic Crew. That is maybe why first transatlantic plane was build there. With the help of N'Zeer technology. Edgar Allan Wright theory of Powerful Anomalous Zone in San Diego is very viable to me for those reasons.

  4. I'm not sure wether anomalous zones are considered being active by location or by people. Regarding the sourcebook's informations it is unknown what causes the cycles of activity.

Both ships gave shelter to groups which could be accounted as argonauts searching or hunting for something. This pattern's roots are going back till ancient greek myths.

An ongoing told story which identities are hidden in the mist of an theseus's paradox? Could this pattern activate an anomalous zone?

  5. I have found a few possible times that Harlan and Capt Fletcher could have met or at least have been influenced by one or the other.
Herman Melville was in Nantucket hearing a tale of the sinking of the Essex from one of the survivors. Harlan could have been in the audience.
Another is that Melville seems have either met with Harlan or read his book A Memoir of India and Afghanistan and referenced it in Moby Dick.
And then, finally, it is entirely possible for the two to have met in Navarro-by-the-sea, if Harlan ever went north to rest, or San Francisco if Fletcher ever went south for supplies, as that is where Harlan died

  6. Edgar Allan Wright I'd like to remind you of the "Summer of Love" that happened in 1967. During your formative years I suspect. It is noted as one of the world's most famous social phenomenon, where over 100, 000 people converged in Haight+Ashbury North Beach San Francisco. Perhaps, San Francisco is a strong anomalous zone. Take for instance in the same genre, Jefferson Airplane, who had a top 10 with "White Rabbit", based on a familiar children's story where Alice of "Alice in Wonderland" chooses which pill to take, either of which will bend reality. People were fascinated with things that twisted reality during this time. Perhaps, it was a method of creating a Mega Magnus, with such a huge gathering of potential repetitious architypes ....thoughts from here.

  7. Michelle Smith I am searching for verification, but the Niantic stopped near Panama and I am hearing rumors of an unrecorded stop in San Diego before arriving in San Francisco. It would be interesting to know if any of its journeys intersected with Fletcher.

  9. Yik Sheng Lee Fascinating theory. And given Harlan's time in Afghanistan and possibly India, could he have been acting in either the interests of the Azmadis or the Jahanites? Is that what the whaling cover was disguising?

  10. Edgar Allan Wright sometimes ships make unrecorded stops when things go wrong. So something could've happened. Or it may have dropped to get supplies. There is always a chance that at least during a one of the Nianic's journeys, that it crossed paths with Fletcher.
